Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

I specifically went out and caught a B/B Unborn Val'kyr, made it rare and lvl 25, and unless Chomp crits with Devour X the UBV has enough health to take both hits to use Haunt.

643 + 643 = 1,286
B/B UBV HP = 1562

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Unborn Val'kyr is one of the rare instances where B/B is better than purebreed. B/B Unborn Val'kyr strikes harder and faster and the damage of CoD is based on the Power stat, not Health.

Thank you for the strat. I was getting frustrated. This worked fine.

I added a level pet to this. Instead of passing I just swapped to a level pet and then lil bling. I forgot to see how much of a hit it took so I'll have to check for that next time.

CyrealReeper

wrote on 2020-03-16 13:17:29

It seems the level pet doesn't even take a hit.

Alan wrote on 2019-11-30 00:46:15

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but this isn't working. 3 times (with both HH and BB) Valks and he killed Bling getting the heal before I could get him.

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-11-30 07:36:20

Well, I can assure you it works, because it's the strat I use. And it's about as straightforward as a strat can be.

This may sound like a silly question, but are you sure you're actually on Chomp? You wouldn't be the first to mistake which battle you're in. :)

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-12-01 09:42:23

When you bring in your Bling, that's when you do your Pass.

You pass on the round Chomp uses paralyzing venom, so there is no interruption.

The Pass button is red, above the usual pet ability buttons.

Alan wrote on 2019-12-01 09:50:09

Gotcha, thanks

Drewi wrote on 2019-08-15 17:55:20

"I specifically went out and caught a B/B Unborn Val'kyr, made it rare and lvl 25, and unless Chomp crits with Devour X the UBV has enough health to take both hits to use Haunt.

643 + 643 = 1,286
B/B UBV HP = 1562"

Well, Chomp DOES indeed ocassionally crit and the battle has to be restarted, so why risk a B/B when the H/H always survives the crit (edited)

wrote on 2019-08-15 20:08:16

Not everyone has an H/H, and I was making sure I was correct that no breed restriction was necessary,

Morichar

As SammyJoe mentioned, script does not match the listed steps (it never passes). Just add a standby above the change and you are gold.

ability(Curse of Doom:218)
ability(Haunt:652)
ability(Inflation:1002)
standby
change(next)

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-07-20 19:05:29

Because you get interrupted you don't need a standby in the script. The pass is there for the people putting the moves in manually.

Morichar

wrote on 2019-07-20 21:24:54

I can only speak for my own testing, but every time I fought Chomp, Lil' Bling was stunned and the script swapped to my 3rd slot pet instead of waiting for the stun to fall off. I had to add standby, YMMV.

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-07-20 21:49:55

It shouldn't because it's a single round stun, meaning the stun doesn't carry over into a second round which would trigger the pet swap. Just tested it (again) and the script worked fine.

keni wrote on 2019-07-20 16:45:12

B/B Valkyr failed. Used H/H. Success!

ASeaFlapFlap wrote on 2019-07-08 13:44:42

Unborn + Ikky worked as well. Didn't even have to bring out a third.

SammyJoe

wrote on 2019-07-01 00:38:56

The TD Script attached to this strat doesn't follow the strat exactly. I adjusted it so it did, and also removed the names of the spells so it would work for non-english players:

if [ self(#1).active ]
ability(#2)
ability(#3)
endif
if [ self(#2).active ]
standby [self.round=1]
ability(#3)
ability(#1) [self.round=3]
endif
change(next)

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-07-01 00:51:18

My script should work for all, since it has ability IDs. The only difference is the standby, which isn't necessary to script in, because Chomp interrupts you anyway.

schlumpf#2707

wrote on 2019-07-01 03:40:35

Please also note that using ability slot instead of ID is strongly vulnerable to break when they reorder abilities or when the automatic substitution pet this site offers has the abilities in different slots.

The names in abilities in scripts are just a fallback. As I’m playing in German i replace them with shorter English strings when I post scripts. Those strings surely never are right, yet scripts still work.

That script,
ability(Curse of Doom:218)
ability(Haunt:652)
ability(Make it Rain:985)
ability(Inflation:1002)
change(next)
and
ability(curse:218)
ability(haunt:652)
ability(rain:985)
ability(capitalism:1002)
change(next)
Should be 100% equivalent.

schlumpf#2707

wrote on 2019-07-01 03:46:58

BTW, in your alternative script, the last conditional is superfluous. One can shorten the script to

ability(#2) [ self(#1).active ]
ability(#3)
ability(#1) [ self(#2).active ]
change(next)

But as said, I strongly advice to not use slots. One can also nicely see how slot+pet-condition nicely translates to specific ability id.

Just wanted to say thanks for this strategy and for all the others you've posted for 8.2. I'm sure a bunch of work and testing went into these and it saves everyone a ton of time when we're trying to do the quests in the new content.

Once the initial rush to get the achieves is over, I'm sure people will come up with better/faster ones, heh.

I have seen a few comments like this (using B/B, not H/H), where peeps are having problems using this strategy on other fights. Might wanna park a toon out in northrend for a try at an HH version.
