Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
RNG
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

So...find a different strategy if this doesn't work. It takes multiple attempts if something goes bad with RNG

Llyander#2676

wrote on 2022-12-31 12:16:05

Did eventually work, but took four attempts. The first three times he would immediately crit my Ikky for 800 and then kill him as soon as I tried Black Claw. On the fourth attempt he didn't crit and I was able to win.

I see you have left several consecutive comments saying strats didn't work, with no details.

I just checked this one out.

It is arithmetically impossible for Nitun to kill your Valk, even a B/B, before it Haunts.

In my specimen battle, Nitun crit my Ikky TWICE put of three rounds and yet I still won. More bad luck than that is possible, but wildly unlikely. (1 in 8000)

There are several people who investigate reports of problems with strategies on Xu-Fu's. There are designated Strategy Curators, and other regulars who read comments and are interested in the latest.

In my experience, when people leave a short "It didn't work" note, they usually made a mistake. Maybe they used a pet with the wrong Speed, maybe they didn't do a Pass where it was indicated, sometimes they were even using the team and strat from a completely different battle. :)

Sometimes there genuinely is a problem with the strat. This is where the Curators and others come in, checking the strat for weaknesses, and fixing it or removing it if it can't be fixed.

Since most failure reports with no details are wrong, it's not good to waste people's time investigating them. Instead, help them by providing the information they need.

If the strat failed for you, and you want your comment to be taken seriously:

1. Specify EXACTLY which species and breeds you used.

2. Specify whether you read the strategy from the site and executed it manually, or downloaded and used the tdScript.

3. Specify EXACTLY where the first unexpected thing happened, the first thing that deviated from what the strat predicts. What died too early? What didn't die when it was supposed to? What attack missed?

4. If possible, provide a log. You can see your log in the Pet Battle tab of your chat box. You can pull that out, make it bigger, screenshot it. Better still, you can use the addon Battle Pet Log Keeper from Curseforge, and do /pblk and Save Battle when the battle you want to log is complete.

Almost any strat can fail to a really unlucky string of crits, and some difficult challenge strats like the Family ones may fail more than anyone likes, but the people behind this site do their best to promote well-working strats. Do your part. Provide useful information.

I also have too often failed using this setup. Stil use it because after some tries it does work...

My setup: Unborn Val'kyr HH, Ikky PS and a leveling pet.
The Val'kyr does what it should but then Nitun hits Ikky first for 800 (from Ravage), that while I apply Black Claw I get 320 damage (again from Ravage) and before I can Flock Nituns Rake finishes with 240 and my leveling pet it standing there all alone before the mighty Nitun.

Gráinne

wrote on 2022-02-26 00:32:26

Thank you! That's enough detail to look at.

Actually, I now see that I must have missed the levelling pet swap-in when I commented before. Yes, you are right. Without the loss of a round to the swap, everything works fine, but that extra round of damage will (usually?) finish Ikky.

I wouldn't bother with these single-boss battles for levelling XP anyhow, but I don't see this being a useful strat if I did.

hellyessir#1119

wrote on 2021-12-05 21:59:33

Has a leveling slot but the script doesn't use the leveling pet, weird. I'll try to come up with a script and post it if it's viable.

Edit: changed my script and order to include leveling pet.

change(#2) [!self(#2).dead]
use(Curse of Doom:218)
use(Haunt:652)
use(Black Claw:919) [!enemy.aura(Black Claw:918).exists]
use(Flock:581)
change(next)

You need to put the leveling pet in the first slot, Valkyr second and Ikky third.
Tried a couple of times and worked perfectly. My Valkyr is H/H so it may be needed for it to survive bad RNG. (edited)

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-12-06 00:56:02

It isn't actually intended as a levelling slot. The two pets are enough to finish the battle, and the battle gives very little XP, so it's not really worth doing to level pets. The intent is just to have any pet sitting there to fill a slot.

You are, of course, welcome to use the spare slot for whatever XP you get out of it, as you have, but personally I wouldn't spend the time to go there on a daily levelling route.

Failed twice, succeeded if: at the stage you put in the levelling pet, if Nitun doesnt attack, attack once (levelling pet has to have +1200 life),then swap out to ikky. I think there are better strats than this

Seriously confused, Ikky was killed in 2 hits, never got to Flock. Haunt and Curse of Doom still sitting there, 1 round to go to Curse of Doom, 2 to Haunt payoffs.

If nitun uses prowl first and your leveling pet is high enough level to take a hit have it take the last round of prowl before switching into ikky and then continue with the rest of the rotation
Edit: Obviously doesn't work for a lvl 1 but on the off chance you had a lvl 24 or something in for a bit of xp this works just did it with lvl 24 dream whelpling P/S (edited)

Jagûar

wrote on 2018-11-07 18:24:18

Having tried this particular strategy a fair number of times and Ikky never surviving to land flock, I today decided to add 1 Shadow Shock after UBV's Curse of Doom before using Haunt, taking advantage of UBV being undead (should it die and resurrect for 1 round)
So I used the exact same pets as listed though with a lvl 9 pet in slot 3 (I don't have anymore lvl 1's left), but with a slight altercation:
Turn 1: Curse of Doom
Turn 2: Shadow Shock - this is the altercation!
Turn 3: Haunt
Bring in your Level Pet
Turn 1: Swap to your Ikky
Turn 2: Black Claw
Turn 3: Flock
Turn 4+: Nitun should be dead by now.

JestersTear

wrote on 2018-12-21 22:31:28

Strat is still bad. Ikky still dies before he can start Flock.

Jagûar

wrote on 2018-12-22 23:48:55

Ikky usually dies if Nitun fires off his Prowl ability after you've used Haunt. When that happens, I usually restart the fight, instead of spending an endless amount of time going through the entire battle, only to fail.
But the strat does work, when it all connects.

There seems to be of late, several strategies that while successful shouldn't be the cover strat. Bury this one in the 30% chance of success RGN crit strat graveyard.
Reliable? = No. Can it be done? = Sure if you want a 30% success rate to back up any fantasy of success. Just leave the level pet out of this entirely.

I find the leveling pet swap both unrewarding (due to low xp) and unreliable. So if you just want to win quickly...use this TD script:

change(#2) [self(#1).active & self(#1).dead]
use(Curse of Doom:218)
use(Haunt:652)
use(Flock:581) [enemy(Nitun:1194).aura(Black Claw:918).exists]

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. Not sure how you managed a lvl 1 pet here because I couldn't do it with a lvl 9 pet after half a dozen times. Probably best for a lvl 20+ flying pet if you want to get some XP.

Sarahlinii

wrote on 2019-02-27 03:35:23

Your Leveling Pet gets brought in after your Unborn Val'kyr uses Haunt and dies (a free pet swap essentially). Your Leveler should take 0 damage making it possible for a level 1 to be used here.

Telopea

Maybe the RNG gods were kind to me (no prowl from Nitun), but this worked perfectly first time. A short and sweet fight.

JestersTear

wrote on 2018-12-21 22:35:38

This strat is bad, the strat from Jag is bad. Keep it simple. This is a low XP fight. Swapping a lvl pet in is pointless and part of the disruption.

Someone else in the alt strats listed a much better rotation.

Haunt with Valk, Black Claw and Flock with Ikky. Fight done. Have a lvl 25 backup in case of a bad RNG crit from Nitun.

Jagûar

wrote on 2018-12-29 01:26:55

I'm sorry to hear that what I do that works for me 7/10 times, doesn't work for you.
You are right, you get very little xp from this fight, compared to others, but to some ppl (my self included) getting a few lvls on a lvl 1 pet might make a different fight more prudent to the same lvl pet if it requires anything above lvl 1 for a lvl'ing pet strategy to work.
In the end, it all counts.

Jag.

Jagûar

wrote on 2018-12-29 01:20:48

Starrbuck. I've removed Turn 8 on your strategy as it was empty and changed the number 7 to number 4. Having a number 7 after a 3 might make some think that something is missing.
